- BeauSoleil (French, beautiful sun) is an American Cajun band from Louisiana.
BeauSoleil is an American band of Cajun music from Louisiana founded in Lafayette in 1975. Their repertoire is composed of traditional cadjins and zydeco on lyrics in Cajun French but also in English.
Historical
The members of BeauSoleil are the Doucet brothers, Michael Doucet (violin and vocals) and David Doucet (guitar and vocals), Jimmy Breaux (accordion), Billy Ware (percussion), Tommy Alesi (percussion), and Mitchell Reed (double bass and violin) ).
The group has opened up to other influences, jazz, rock 'n' roll, blues ... which is worth their admiration because it gives an energy to the songs or the contrary of the critics because it denatures the genre.
Prizes and awards
In 1998, BeauSoleil won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Album for Love or Madness.
In 2005, BeauSoleil won the Big Easy Entertainment Award for Best Cajun Band.
In 2005, Michael Doucet received a National Heritage Fellowship.
In 2008, BeauSoleil won a Grammy Award for Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album for his album Live at the 2008 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
