I had no idea what Lloyd Price was saying in the second-to-last line, and no other lyrics site had it right. Youre right that its “Clawdy oh darling”. Elvis’ version did not include that line, among other changes. But there is a studio recording where he sings “goodbye toenail darling” and laughs. When I gave the Lloyd Price version a close listen and heard that line, I knew Lloyd wasn’t saying “toenail”, and I’m sure Elvis knew too, but I could not make it out.
