- 詹姆斯·卡特（James Carter，1969年1月3日出生）是美國爵士音樂家。他是爵士小提琴家里賈納·卡特（Regina Carter）的表弟。
傳
卡特出生於密歇根州底特律，在唐納德·華盛頓的指導下學習演奏，成為他的青年爵士樂團Bird-Trane-Sco-NOW的成員！作為一個年輕人，卡特參加了藍湖美術營，成為營內最年輕的教員。他於1985年首次與國際爵士樂隊一起巡演歐洲（斯堪的納維亞半島），16歲。
1988年5月31日，在底特律藝術學院（DIA），卡特是客座藝術家萊斯特·鮑伊（Lester Bowie）的最後一刻加盟，後者變成了他的新五重奏組（他的紐約管風琴合奏團的先驅）紐約市，11月份在現已不存在的卡洛斯一爵士俱樂部。這在卡特的職業生涯中起到了關鍵作用，使他與世界保持著音樂接觸，兩年後他搬到了紐約。自20世紀80年代後期以來，他一直是爵士樂表演和錄音藝術家，演奏薩克斯，長笛和單簧管。
