- Paula Abdul，原名Paula Julie Abdul；於1962年6月19日出生於洛杉磯。從小就在學校及舞團裡學習舞技，曾任NBA洛杉磯湖人隊的啦啦隊隊員；17歲時更擔任該啦啦隊的編舞指導..Paula Abdul便是在一場湖人隊比賽中被傑克森家族看中華美炫麗的舞蹈風格。1984年她首次為傑克森家族的音樂錄影帶 'Torture' 編舞並進一步受聘為他們「Victory Tour」巡迴演出的助理舞蹈指導。由此際遇，她結識了演藝生涯轉淚點上的關鍵人物Janet Jackson，開始為Janet首張專輯「Control」的音樂錄影帶編舞。在1986年MTV大獎頒獎典禮上，她的舞曲才華終獲肯定，以Janet單曲 'Nasty'的音樂錄影帶掄下「最佳編舞」桂冠；接著再因Tracy Ulman Show電視影集獲得艾美獎最佳編舞大獎。頂著這些閃亮光環，寶拉受邀擔綱艾迪墨菲主演電影「Coming To Amreica」的舞蹈指導。
「跳而優則唱」，寶拉於1988年6月發表了首張個人專輯「Forever Your Girl」。雖然專輯前2首單曲 'Knocked Out'、 '（It's Just）The Way That You Love Me'並未一鳴驚人，但第3支單曲 'Straight Up'卻一飛沖天，直奔排行榜冠軍寶座。之後連續三支單曲 'Forever Your Girl'、'Cold Hearted'、'Opposites Attract'更是後勁十足地蟬連榜首，寶拉成為第一位首張專輯便有四首冠軍單曲的流行藝人。1989年的MTV音樂大獎，大放異彩的'Straight Up'一口氣為寶拉奪下「最佳編舞」、「最佳舞曲」、「最佳女藝人」、「最佳剪輯」等四項年度大獎；「Forever Your Girl」至今已是銷售逾千萬的多白金冠軍專輯！

1990年6月，寶拉接續出擊，發表專輯「Shut Up And Dance」重新混音「Forever Your Girl」中多首膾炙人口的作品。絕無冷場的動感曲風再度成為當年的流行焦點，囊括了「全美音樂獎」、「全美聽眾票選」、「全美舞曲獎」的年度最佳編舞等三座大獎。
1991年5月寶拉發行了第二張正式專輯「Spellbound」。不同於以往的熱力舞曲，寶拉這次讓世人迷戀上她的嬌媚柔情，首支抒情單曲 'Rush Rush'依舊是金榜金曲；其音樂錄影帶則由當時仍是默默無名小明星的基孥李維與寶拉巧扮《養子不教誰之過》的詹姆斯狄恩與娜妲麗華。另外，同等抒情'Will You Marry Me'、'Blowing Kisses In The Wind'、媲美'Forever You Girl'的輕快舞曲'Promise For A New Day'及音樂鬼才Prince跨刀編寫的'Vibeology'，都在排行榜上有著非常亮眼的成績。雖然「Spellbound」沒有像「Forever Your Girl」般所向披靡的凌人氣勢，但它依然盤據專輯榜首二週，創造了超過三百萬張的傲人銷售數字。
1992年，已是流行天后的寶拉卻遭司法纏身，不勝其擾。原因是女歌手Yvette Marine指出寶拉專輯「Forever Your Girl」中多首作品事實上是由她發聲主唱因而向法院提出訴訟，要求Virgin唱片公司賠償美金三百萬元的鉅額款項。經法院判決寶拉勝訴，代唱風波就此停歇；於此同時，寶拉宣布與男影星Emilio Estevez閃電結婚。最後她卻因長達15年的不正常暴食症而決定進入療養中心接受治療，暫時離開了流行樂界。
